Perilous Night

By Lee Blessing

How does a person dream themselves to another time?

They wish to. Deeply. And of course certain powerful drugs are involved.

nimbus presents the world premiere of Lee Blessing’s Perilous Night

Queen Elizabeth III has returned from the future, and grants an impromptu audience with young Harriet, a subject with an urgent suit in need of redress. Undeterred by the fact that they both find themselves patients in a mental hospital, Elizabeth and Harriet embark on a revealing and unsettling dialogue about race, time travel, and the relationship between the mighty and the powerless. When it becomes apparent that Samuel and Carver, two attendants with a secret agenda, are up to no good, the royal will must be brought to bear to “uphold the right”.

Or is it the left?

Award winning playwright Lee Blessing unveils an intense, darkly comic look at the dynamics of race, relationships and power in this unusual monarchy.

Premiered at nimbus theatre Sept. 14 - Oct. 6, 2013.
